The Board of Directors, the Management Board and the General Director are responsible for the overall management of MMC Norilsk Nickel’s CSR and sustainability activities, in accordance with the allocation of their duties. The Charter of the Company stipulates for the right of the Board of Directors to set qualification requirements to General Director and members of the Management Board for guiding the Company’s strategy on economic, environmental, and social topics.

The deputy General Director who heads the Personnel and Social Policy Division is directly responsible for coordinating the Company’s CSR efforts. The division consists of two departments: the Personnel Department, and the Department for Corporate Compensation Policy and Social Programs. Late in 2006, an International Social Reporting section was created within the Department for Corporate Compensation Policy and Social Programs.
The division has the following functions:
- Drafting and implementing the company-wide personnel development strategy, development of social partnership and corporate culture;
- Designing and implementing social and charitable programs at the company level;
- Developing and implementing the strategy and current policies on staff remuneration and incentives, as well as corporate HR standards;
- Developing and operating the system of corporate social monitoring and social reporting, including conformity to international standards.
The head of the Technical Regulation and Environment Division is responsible for the drafting and implementation of environmental policy and policies on technical regulation and quality management. The division consists of two departments: the Department for Corporate Environmental Regulation, and the Department for Technical Regulation and
Quality Management. The division has the following functions:
- Developing and implementing of the main areas of corporate environmental policy;
- Working with legislative and regulatory authorities on issues of environmental protection;
- Supporting production operations in the area of technical regulation;
- Support the Integrated Quality Control and Environmental Management System, in accordance with ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004.
As accepted practice, reports on social, environmental and economic performance of the Company’s divisions and management bodies are submitted to and assessed by respective higher-level governance bodies.
The functions of the Investor Relations Department consist in relations with stakeholders and investors. The PR Department is responsible for informational policy and effective system of relations with Russian and international mass-media development. Risk management is one of the main functions of the Internal Control Department
